Position Overview:
Golden West Apprenticeships, in partnership with Gunggari Native Title Aboriginal Corporation, are seeking motivated and enthusiastic candidates to commence a Ranger Traineeship based in Mitchell. The purpose of this traineeship is to provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge through completing on the job working experience and training with an employer whilst completing a nationally recognised course of training through a registered training organisation.

Please note this is an identified position. Women are encouraged to apply. Part-time arrangements may also be considered. Some camping in remote locations is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Ranger, you’ll contribute to on-Country conservation and land management projects, including threatened species monitoring, biosecurity efforts, cultural heritage protection, and weed and pest control. You’ll work closely with Traditional Owners and fellow Rangers to deliver practical outcomes that protect and enhance Gunggari Country.
Essential Criteria:
- A current manual open driver’s licence
- Ability to pass a Fit for Work medical (including drug and alcohol screening)
- Experience in Indigenous ranger groups or environmental fieldwork
- Effective communication and team collaboration skills
- Knowledge of WHS responsibilities and safe equipment use
- Physical fitness and willingness to camp in remote areas
- Blue Card (or ability to obtain one)
- A willingness to develop skills and knowledge.
- The ability to listen, follow instructions and ask for assistance when required.
- The desire to make a positive contribution to the workplace by being punctual, showing interest and adhering to the relevant workplace policies and procedures.
- The ability to act responsibly and safely in the workplace.
- The ability to develop effective working relationships both in the workplace as well as with Golden West Apprenticeships team members.
- The ability to complete timesheets correctly and on-time.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
- First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Undergo Commonwealth Police Check (if required)
- Residency in Mitchell, QLD (or willingness to relocate)
- Qualifications in land care or conservation (or equivalent experience)
- Work experience in your chosen industry
Position Requirements:
To fulfil the requirements of Ranger Traineeship with Golden West Apprenticeships you will:

- Abide by the terms and conditions of the Training Contract.
- Complete Golden West Apprenticeships inductions.
- Perform work in a satisfactory manner.
- Commit to and complete the Training Plan in the timeframe allocated by completing theory based assessments and demonstrating skills through competency based assessments to the best of your ability.
- Comply with registration relevant to your field of work, in particular the Further Education and Training Act and the Work Health and Safety Act.
