Fitting and Turning Apprenticeship
Full-time Apprenticeship

Location: Millmerran
Duration: 42 months
Closing Date: 30/11/2025
Position Overview:
Golden West Apprenticeships, in partnership with Millmerran Power Station, is looking for individuals who don’t just want a job, they want to understand how things move, connect, and perform.

This apprenticeship combines real-world training on live plant and precision machinery with nationally recognised qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting & Turning). You’ll work beside experienced tradespeople who’ll help you turn that curiosity into a career. We’re calling on hands-on problem solvers, natural tinkerers, and team players ready to learn, listen, and take pride in their craft.

Ask Yourself…
• When something breaks, do you want to know why?
• Do you enjoy figuring out how pieces fit together — from engines to everyday tools?
• Are you the type who’d rather build it than buy it?
• Do you see yourself as someone who learns by doing?
If these questions sound like you, this trade could be your perfect fit.

The apprenticeship will commence in January 2026.

• Precision fitting, assembly, and machining of metal components.
• Diagnosing faults and performing maintenance on mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Reading and working from engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Setting up and operating lathes, mills, and grinders.
• Understanding tolerances, measurements, and mechanical principles.
You’ll learn to see the detail others miss, the essence of a great tradesperson.
Essential Criteria:
• A Driver’s Licence (or ability to obtain one).
• An interest in mechanics, machinery, or engineering.
• Reliability and curiosity the kind that keeps you asking questions.
• A commitment to working safely, learning continuously, and showing up ready to contribute.
• The ability to think, not just do because great tradespeople solve problems, not just complete tasks.
• Highly regarded are candidates that have any previous exposure to tools, machinery, or trade environments.
• VET or pre-apprenticeship training in mechanical, manufacturing, or engineering streams.
• 2025 Year 12 school leavers and mature aged applicants are encouraged to apply.
